You may or may not have heard of SID tunes. They are music made on the Commodore 64 and are also known as psid files.
The collection of SID tunes you find here is a web mirror of the High Voltage SID Collection (HVSC) with a search engine connected to it.
It also has the SID Tune Information List (STIL) stored locally, which also is searchable.
Currently, there are 35,030 SID tunes (9,381 STIL entries) searchable in SIDFind.
In addition, there are remixes linked to R:K:O.
There are other SID search engines out there:
Tomten has one search engine up here.
Adam Lorentzons SID search engine (which actually inspired me to write SIDFind) can be found here.
Simply type in what you want to search for and hit enter. If you wish to have less information, try unchecking the 'STIL' and 'R:K:O' checkboxes.
At first SIDFind was built with CGI's. It was too slow, so I rewrote the whole thing using PHP and MySQL. A local version of the entire HVSC collection is scanned through once per update, extracting the 'title', 'composer' and 'copyright' headers of the files and storing these into a database. This is the basic information that is in most SID search engines. In addition to this, SIDFind stores the SID Tune Information List stored in the same database, so it too can be searched. It also links to R:K:O if any remix has been made on the tune.
Unfortunately not. The entire SIDFind collection of scripts is specifically written for this site. There are, however, tools similar to SIDFind that are freely available. Head over to the links section and search for 'SIDFind' and you'll get started.
